इस कविता A Tiger in the Zoo में कवि Leslie Norris ने जंगल में रहने वाले बाघ और पिंजरे में रहने वाले बाघ के बीच अंतर और उनके मनोदशा का चित्रण बड़े मार्मिक ढंग से किया है।

पहले स्टैंज़ा में कवि पिंजरे में रहने वाले बाघ के बारे में लिखते हैं कि वह (पिंजरे का बाघ) अपने शांतिमय क्रोध तथा अपने चमकदार धारियों में शांति के साथ गद्दीदार तलवे पर अपने पिंजरे में कुछ कदम चलता है। अर्थात एक बाघ पिंजरे में है। उसके शरीर पर बनी धारियाँ बहुत चमकीली हैं। उसके पैरों के तलवे गद्देदार व मुलायम है, इसलिए वह बिना कोई आवाज किए चल रहा है। लेकिन उसकी शाही चाल मात्र कुछ कदमों तक ही सीमित है क्योंकि वह पिंजरे में बन्द है। इसलिए वह क्रोधित दिखता है परन्तु शान्त रहता है।

दूसरे स्टैंज़ा में कवि जंगल में रहने वाले बाघ की बात करते हैं। वह कल्पना करते हैं कि वह बाघ छाया में घात लगाये बैठा होगा; वह किसी जलाशय के पास घास में दुबक कर अपने शिकार की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा होगा; वह अवश्य ही किसी मोटे-ताजे हिरण पर आक्रमण करने की तैयारी में होगा।

तीसरे स्टैंज़ा में फिर से कवि जंगल में रहने वाले बाघ के बारे में लिखते हैं कि जंगल में रहने वाले बाघ जंगल के छोर पर स्थित घरों के चारों ओर गुर्रा रहा होगा। अपने लम्बे तीक्ष्ण सफेद दांतों तथा अपने पंजों को दिखाते हुए गाँव के लोगों को भयभीत कर रहा होगा।

चौथे स्टैंज़ा में कवि अपने मन की बात लिखते हैं कि वह बाघ जो कि जंगल में स्वतंत्र था, पिंजरे में डाल दिया गया है। उसे कंकरीट की मजबूत कोठरी में कैद कर दिया गया है। उसकी शक्ति को सलाखों के पीछे बन्द कर दिया गया है। वह दर्शकों की परवाह न करते हुए अपने पिंजरे की पूरी लम्बाई में चलता रहता है।
